On Garden of the Gods

Save Mount Diablo is a big supporter of Measure WW, which is why I was so pleased that Diablo published Bob Walker’s beautiful photos of the East Bay’s open spaces in “Garden of the Gods” (October 2008). Bob was my best friend, and although he died in 1992, he lived to see the East Bay Regional Park District expansion begin. He would be even more pleased to know his photos are still helping to protect our last best natural lands.

“Garden of the Gods” highlighted the jewel that is the East Bay Regional Park District. The Muir Heritage Land Trust board of directors unanimously supports Measure WW, which will continue the legacy the district’s founders began in 1934 (another period of economic uncertainty).
Measure WW will extend measure AA, which passed 20 years ago and helped preserve over 34,000 acres of open space. Measure WW is an investment in the future of the East Bay. While development may slow in the immediate future, it will not stop, and, as in 1934, we need to look ahead.

On See Sharon Run

Although I enjoyed the article on Sharon Kovar’s running exploits (“See Sharon Run,” October), I was dismayed that she has “run” through three marriages. I understand this is a feel-good article, but it might have been informative to hear Sharon’s take on what her husbands and children think of her traveling the world, following her hobby. Is Sharon Kovar a cover girl for the me-first generation?
