Oakland's beloved art center puts on a fantastic and fiery benefit show.

The Crucible's anniversary benefit show was as fiery as ever, but this year's event marked a passing of the torch, as the art center's founder, sculptor Michael Sturtz, will soon be leaving his post and ushering The Crucible into the next generation. Sturtz founded the nonprofit in 1999 to inspire a new kind of artistic experience that offered anyone an outlet for creative expression. In the last 12 years, The Crucible has grown into the largest nonprofit industrial arts education facility in the country, now home to more than 8,000 students who pursue disciplines from metal work to belly dancing, 3,000 of whom are youth. The anniversary benefit was an impressive display of the talent and creativity The Crucible continues to foster.
Wish we could have seen it. Bought tickets 2 months in advance, but alas, no seats at the inn. think 300 seats = 300 ticket sales would be easy, but alas no. Somehow 300 seats = 500 ticket sales. Fail.
