Okay Diabloland, time to weigh in on a meaty issue: what's your favorite hamburger in the East Bay? Our Diablo editors have compiled, what we like to think, is a pretty good list of the area's best. But if we've missed you fave, or if you just plain disagree (or agree) with our picks, this is the time to have your voice heard.

George's in Walnut Creek has alway's been tops in the area for over 15 years, always fresh ground meat daily, their BEST BURGER is the bacon-cheeseburger with grilled onions on a french roll w/lettuce  tomato, it is a meal by it self for under $8.50. plus they take call in orders that are ready in less than 10 minutes (they don't cook your fries till you get there-fresh not soggy), great fries and shakes too.

OMG!  The ultimate burgers are at Cafe Rouge in Berkeley, where you can get accompanying frites or sauteed greens, and Wood Tavern, in Oakland, also served with fries on the side and home made pickles!

Oscar's in Berkeley - the burgers have that great char-broiled flavor from being cooked on their big open fire grill.

The burger at Susan Foord Catering's cafe is the best in the west.  REAL french fries, and the burger is Neiman Ranch.  Just greasy enough, crispy fries, and that ol' Susan Foord charm.  What could be better?

Niman Ranch beef burger at Susan Foord's Cafe is grilled to perfection and they serve fresh, homemade french fries all for only $7.75 - best lunches in town.

Comment: George's in Walnut Creek is our all time favorite for a great hamburger. The fries are real good too. A super great burger in Concord can be had at Best Burger (and it is!)at the corner of Monument Blvd. and Meadow Lane. Can't wait to get over to both of these wonderful places.

Comment: Vic Stewart's Filet Burger is a must try.  Order it med-rare and with the works.  Hands down the best burger in Walnut Creek.

Comment: Hands down, Nation's is the best burger in the area! Nice and juicy, cooked on a griddle as they should be. A big slice of sweet onion, lettuce and tomato round out the picture. A basic, nice sized all American burger! Add a chocolate shake and fries and I am in hog heaven!!

Comment: The "Double-Double Animal Style" is my very favorite from IN-N-OUT when I'm feeling very hungry! Forget about the probably 10,000 calories I'm consuming....it's SO-O-O-O GOOD!

Comment: Gordo's in Walnut Creek across from Heather Farm, awesome! Also, Oscar's in Berkeley near the Gourmet Ghetto on Shattuck, fabulous charbroiled morsels!

Comment: Hubcaps has the best burgers! They're a Walnut Creek staple, been on Bonanza for years. Is that why Diablo keeps overlooking them? I say not again!! Hubcaps is yummy!

Comment: Gigi's Burger in Lafayette is a personal favorite, but they are going, going, gone. Restaurant closed. I know it's hard to keep up with the long magazine lead time.

Comment: Bing Crosby's burger is amazing! Overall Bing's lunch is extremely affordable; I think the burger is $12. I love the burger topped with blue cheese. I give it five stars!

Comment: My favorite cut of beef is hamburger so I was very surprised that 3 that I think are among the very best are missing from your list: the Kobe hamburger at the Bistro at the Park (and the Duck Club) and the hamburgers at the Left Bank and Casa Orinda. I think they are each infinitely superior to many of those on your list.

Comment: I just got my February '09 issue and went straight to the Best Burgers article. After reading it I thought, "What gives, no mention of Eddie Papa's in Pleasanton?"
How could it not have made your list? Great Burger - Great Ambiance - Great Service!

Comment: Enjoyed your recent article on burgers in our area but I feel you neglected one that is always consistent in flavor and cost effective for the family.  George's in downtown Walnut Creek has been a solid restaurant for many years and I feel you should have acknowledged their commitment to our community.
