Women Take Note

The Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center at Oakland’s Alta Bates Summit Medical Center dazzles—from its ceramic tile entryway to the fabulous art throughout the facility. Think style following function, with an added dose of grace. (The center even offers patients fluffy robes, not paper gowns.)

Even more reassuring than the center’s ambience is the skill and technology that’s gathered here. There’s no longer any need to trek over to UC San Francisco or Stanford for comprehensive care or leading-edge procedures. Digital mammograms, for example, are performed and read on-site, reducing waiting times for results and possibly speeding any needed treatment.

The East Bay is long overdue for a world-class breast-care facility. Speaking for women in the area, thank goodness the center is here.

Don't they accept anyone, similar to Children's Hospital, but for women? I could be wrong.
