Pleasant Hill native Heidi Buehler owns the stage as Tiger Lily in the new San Francisco production of Peter Pan.

In J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, Tiger Lily is mature for her age, with the fierceness of a tiger and the softness of a lily. The same could be said of Pleasant Hill’s Heidi Buehler, who portrays the rescued Indian princess in the U.S. premiere of the groundbreaking 360-degree, live-action and digital–hybrid production of Peter Pan, playing now in San Francisco.

The much-hyped show offers the first theatrical role for the 24-year-old Carondelet High and UC Santa Barbara grad, who trained classically with Contra Costa Ballet and spent the last few years as a professional dancer with various Bay Area companies. In Peter Pan, Buehler is the lone dancer among a cast of actors and puppeteers, and she shines, dancing a duet with Peter and interacting with the massive digital screen like a seasoned pro.

Buehler says she finds it thrilling to work with Peter Pan’s breakthrough production designs.

“The computer-generated effects don’t take away from the performance; they add to it,” she says. “When I come out of a trap door
and see jungle all around, it helps me get into character.”
