Diablo's Senior Editor Peter Crooks has a long history of going to concerts—something he drew on when compiling this month's Summer Concert Guide. He also has a ton of stories about the hundreds of shows he's seen through the years and we're sure that you do too. So don't be shy, share stories about your favorite—or least favorite—shows you've been to over the years in the East Bay.

I'll get the party started. The best show I've seen in 2009 is a no-contest: John Prine at the warfield Theater. I've been going to see Prine every chance I've had since 1999, when I saw him with Iris DeMent at the Fillmore. Since then, I've driven as far as hanford, CA twice to see him perform at the intimate Fox Theater.
For the Warfield show, I purchased tickets in the pre-sale offered through Johnprine.net. I was pretty thrilled to pick up the tickets at will all and find that they were in the front row of the balcony, dead center. It was a real treat to float just above the stage and hear the legendary singer-songwriter run through a two hour set of his wonderful songs and stories. Each time I see Prine he seems better and warmer than the last. I can't wait for him to come back through the Bay Area, possibly in early October for the free Hardly Strictly Bluegrass fest. He's definitely booked for the MOuntain Winery on October 1. I'll be there!
Another great show in 2009 was Green Day's surprise show at the Fox Oakland Theater. You can read my review here: http://www.diablomag.com/D-blog/Petes-Popcorn-Picks/April-2009/Concert-Review-Green-Dat-debuts-21st-Century-Breakdown-at-the-Fox-Oakland/
By far, the best concert I've been to was Chicago at Wente in 2000. It was an unbelievable night!
The Black Keys show and the Band of Horses show at the Fox Theater. They both killed it and its the best venue in the East Bay(along with the Greek in Berkeley).
