Comic Relief

Hey, is that a giant alien beast on Mount Diablo, or do I need to get my eyes lasered?
Dan Brereton’s series of Giantkiller comic books is the colorful product of his imaginative East Bay childhood.

“Growing up in San Ramon, I used to imagine giants walking around in the hills,” recalls Brereton, 40. In 1999, he penned and painted a series of DC Comics about a half-man, half-mutant giant who fights nasty alien beasts wreaking havoc on the East Bay landscape. Since the giants are a monstrous metaphor for building developers, Save Mount Diablo has jumped at the chance to help throw a release party for a new anthology of Brereton’s Giantkiller stories. The event will be held at Flying Colors Comics in Concord on March 11.
