When Alonis Met Calamari

Two East Bay social networkers find love on Twitter.

Like all modern media outlets, Diablo has a Twitter account. We were thrilled to learn that two readers who follow our tweets—Alonis, a Castro Valley web editor who tweets breaking news stories, and Calamari, an Emeryville graphic designer—have become an item via this viral phenomenon.

DiabloMagazine How did u2 meet?

Alonis I was tweeting about the Oscar Grant/BART shooting story, and he was following those tweets to find out about BART closures for his commute.

Calamari I was definitely interested in Alonis from the start. Her tweets come off as smart/current, and her writing has a very fun/edgy style.

Alonis Weeks later, a bunch of people from Twitter were meeting up at the Pillow Fight 4 Peace in SF on Valentine’s Day. @calamari was going to come but did not show.

Calamari I missed the pillow fight b/c couldn’t find anyone to go. Didn’t want to go alone b/c I was worried @Alonis would think I was a loser. LOL!

Alonis He tweeted us during the pillow fight: “Sorry I flaked but still would like to go out. Anyone want to meet?” I said sure.

Calamari Met at Eli’s Mile High Club. Saw a blues band there once, but that night was a metal band. Not great 4 a date, so went to a place on Piedmont.

Alonis We talked until 4 a.m. We’ve been together since.

Alonis LOL. We discussed and agreed. We decided to be a cpl only a week later. 24 hrs later, we announced on Twitter.
