PHO Asian Bistro -- Dublin

Dublin's PHO serves up just that: piping hot, inexpensive and sure to be a new hidden favorite

Tucked into a small pedestrian alleyway around the corner from the Regal Cinemas in Dublin’s Hacienda Crossing, PHO Asian Bistro is worth the hunt. Not quite as cheap as some other Tri-Valley pho spots, this Vietnamese restaurant easily makes up for that with its pleasant decor and superfriendly service—and the menu has plenty of great options for under $10.

Most appetizers, including egg rolls, tom chien (fried shrimp), and a beef and green apple salad, cost $5.95. The eclectic house specials include Vietnamese-style versions of fried rice, chow mein (both $7.95), and pad Thai ($8.25), and even a Vietnamese crepe for $8.95.

The pho, served in a savory, flavorful broth that tastes leaner and healthier than the average, does not disappoint—the special includes steak, brisket, tendon, tripe, and beef balls in an extra large bowl for $7.75. The Vietnamese sandwiches—served with cucumber, pickled carrot and daikon, and meat on a fluffy French roll—are a super deal at just $3.95.

For dessert, the fried banana with ice cream ($4.25) is a popular choice, and the restaurant also serves 10 different flavors of bubble tea ($3.50).

Feeling Phunky: Don’t be surprised to hear some old-school ‘70s jams coming from the speakers to add to the fun, friendly atmosphere of the restaurant. On one visit, disco classics “More, More, More” and “Ring My Bell” followed on the heels of a Rick James tune.
