Pooch Park

Pooch Park

A decade of diligence on the part of Walnut Creek dog owners has finally paid off: The dog park at Heather Farm Park is (almost) ready to open. City of Walnut Creek officials hope the long-planned, much-debated park, at the north end of Heather Farm, will be open for business (bring your own bags) by the end of this month, pending the go-ahead from the city’s maintenance department.

The one-acre park, which features a contained area for smaller and older dogs, and a large lawn for active dogs to frolic off leash, cost about $430,000. For information about grand-opening events, go to the city of Walnut Creek website (www.ci.walnut-creek.ca.us) or the Walnut Creek Dog Owner’s Group’s site (www.wcdog.org), which also includes directions to a variety of other East Bay dog parks.
