Diablo Review:

With its casual atmosphere and serious cuisine, Barlata fits nicely into hipster-gourmet Telegraph in the Temescal district. Barcelona-born chef Daniel Olivella’s muy authentic, seafood-packed menu of tapas proves mostly successful, with a couple of exceptions. The boquerónes—cured anchovies, pear, and Spanish cheese—didn’t quite gel, while two of the three gazpachos seemed a little too experimental. The gambas ajillo, however, shone, with sizzling, bouncy tiger shrimp seasoned perfectly with garlic and a just-spicy-enough adobo. The fried patatas bravas were light and crispy, and topped with a spicier tomato sauce and cooling aioli. We didn’t taste the chocolate in the sauce on the beef-pork meatballs with sepia, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying this snappy little dish. The Iberico ham plate rocked: From acorn-fed Spanish pigs, the meat was so rich, nutty, and sweet, it tasted faintly of coconut. Small carafes from the all-Spanish wine list provide a nice value. Lunch Wed.–Fri., dinner daily.
