From the professional service, to the modern interior (including a sleek corner bar), to the full-of-flavor peanut dressing on the side salad, everything about Dragon’s Pond seems just a cut above. As it should be, given its prime downtown Walnut Creek location. Still, prices are more than reasonable—particularly the lunch specials, which hover mostly in the $8 range—given the quality of the ingredients in the Hunan-style Mandarin fare. The prawns served with the mixed vegetables were bouncy fresh while the fried chicken in the orange chicken was lighter, crispier, and tastier than the norm. The crispy glazed chicken was sweet and savory, with a nice lingering heat that hit our comfort zone just right. They deliver, too. Lunch and dinner daily.
