The sister restaurant to Metro Lafayette, Metro Montclair is a casual French bistro, with small marble tables, bold green and yellow walls, and a sleek red stained-wood bar. The menu is tailored for an upscale lunch—croque monsieur, niçoise salad, lamb sandwich with black olive-mint tapenade—or an elegant, not-too-expensive dinner with entrées like flat iron steak with Roquefort fondue or coq au vin chicken with Provençal vegetables rarely approaching the $20 mark. On our visit, we started with the tuna poke: a generous portion of chopped tuna atop crisp cucumber, with a ginger-soy marinade. A panfried crab cake was packed with fresh crab, and for dessert, the salted caramel pot de crème was a smooth, rich finale. Lunch and dinner daily.
