Goapele performs at Yoshi's
R&B singer Goapele sold out six shows in three consecutive nights at Yoshi's in Oakland.
Goapele returned to her roots in Oakland from March 27–29, playing six sold-out shows at Yoshi’s. Diablo joined the mellow crowd of loyal fans came out Sunday night to listen to old favorites and new material by the R&B singer.
During the first show, Goapele put everyone in the mood opening with “Crushed Out.” Two big hits of the show were “First Love,” which she dedicated to the single people in the crowd, and “Closer,” which the crowd sang along with her. Prior to playing "Closer," Goapele called on the crowd to come together as a community not just nationally, but locally, stating, “we’re on the brink of a lot of really good things.”
Goapele also performed some new material from her record due out this summer, including “Milk 'n' Honey,” which is, ahem, sensual to say the least. The first show was mellow, with the second show a bit more lively, closing with another crowd favorite, “Love Me Right."
Following both shows, Goapele met the crowd and signed autographs at the merchandise booth. She was kind enough to take photos with fans, and even shared some hugs. Goapele’s latest album since her release of Change It All in 2005, will be out this summer. We’ll keep you posted.
