Last summer, Dennis Richmond was voted Diablo’s Best News Anchor for the umpteenth time. At the time, he assured us that he had plans to pack up and leave the East Bay for greener pastures in Grass Valley when his contract expires in May 2006.
Well, things have changed. The brass at KTVU made Richmond an offer he couldn’t refuse, and the longtime 10 O’Clock News anchor will now stay on through May 2008. "This way, I’ll be able to retire at age 65, and I will have been at Channel 2 for 40 years," he says. "But I won’t have to cover another presidential election, which is a good thing."
But isn’t his wife, Deborah, disappointed about the contract extension?
"Well, we’ve been discussing whether or not to put in a swimming pool at the house in Grass Valley. A new pool might buy me some time," Richmond laughs. "No, she understands. I’m not ready to give it up. I don’t have to bribe her for that."
