Diablo's resident movie buff handicaps the odds for our local filmmakers.
Diablo expects some local players to score an Oscar on February 27. But will it be MacGruber or Lightyear who wins the gold? Here are our odds, long shots and all.
1,000,000 to 1: Lafayette’s Will Forte for Best Actor in MacGruber. Sorry Will, but Colin Firth’s stammering king has you beat.
25 to 1: Twilight: Eclipse for Best Visual Effects. Berkeley’s Tippett Studio helped Eclipse become the biggest Twilight hit yet—but needs to sink its fangs into Inception for the win.
20 to 1: Toy Story 3 for Best Picture. Pixar’s blockbuster will have a tough time friending more Oscar voters than The Social Network to become the first animated movie to win the big prize.
10 to 1: The Tillman Story for Best Documentary. Critics loved this doc about an Army cover-up by Berkeley High alum Amir Bar-Lev.
2 to 1: Toy Story 3 for Best Animated Feature. That local kid (Tom Hanks) who played Woody was pretty good.
