Alcohol–Infused Marshmallows and Brittle
Oakland’s Sugar Knife Sweets crafts boozy treats.
By Jenna Keys
When it comes to February 14, guys have it easy: roses, chocolates, a candlelit dinner. So what’s a girl to do? Spoil him with a sugary, boozy treat, of course.
My guy loved the Town Biz brittle from Oakland’s Sugar Knife Artisan Sweets made with Knob Creek whiskey and pistachios. (He even took some to work the next day.)
The treats are made by Jenna Keys, who was broke and looking for ways to make her own holiday gifts when she started to experiment with an old marshmallow recipe. “The first few batches, I did terribly,” says Keys. “I don’t have a background in professional baking, but this became a challenge to me.”
Her homemade gifts were a hit, and today—three years and one Kickstarter campaign later—Keys and her husband craft small-batch beer and whiskey brittles, and alcoholic marshmallows.
Pick up the ultimate six-pack: The Brittle Banger gift box features six brittles, including our favorite, The Filthy Pig. Made with Bulleit Bourbon, Niman Ranch bacon, and pecans, what’s not to love? $45 for six two-ounce bags, sugarknife.com.
