Workout with your dog and take a class together!

Our wheaten terrier is always in the mood for a workout.
Maybelline goes for a run every morning and a walk every night. She fills the time in between with energetic play sessions with her best four-legged friends and sometimes her stuffed jellyfish toy—which has seen better days.
I’m a little more laid-back about exercise. Facebook and Netflix often get in the way of my workout schedule.
But Maybelline got me back on the treadmill, so to speak, with a recent trip to the new Zoom Room in Walnut Creek. The first East Bay franchise of a wildly successful SoCal dog-training center offers daily agility classes and canine cross-training sessions for puppies and their people.
Maybelline and I took an agility class, which featured all kinds of interesting exercise routines. Maybelline liked leaping through the tire the best, especially when she found the treat on a plate on the other side. She also loved running over the balance beam, especially when she found the treat at the other end. And she loved the instructor, Liz, especially when Maybelline got a treat for sitting on command, like a good girl.
By the end of the workout, Maybelline was quite a happy camper. I had experienced the equivalent of a medium workout at the people-only gym I keep meaning to go to—the one that doesn’t give you a treat when you finish the elliptical machine.
