Bon Voyage, pals
Say it ain’t so! Longtime Danville residents Steve and Julie Raleigh are moving out of town. Diablo raises a fond farewell toast (with a keep-in-touch chaser) to our perennial Best of the East Bay meteorologist and his wife—two of the area’s most outstanding philanthropists.
Here’s the scoop: It seems WCPO 9 in Cincinnati made Steve an offer he couldn’t refuse, and the Raleighs are packing up their four kids and moving back to the Buckeye State metropolis. The Raleighs met in Cincinnati, when Steve was doing TV weather and Julie was a cheerleader for the Bengals football team.
They moved to the East Bay nine years ago, and since then Steve has been informing us about Bay Area weather as KRON 4’s meteorologist. The Raleighs have been enthusiasticvolunteers, emceeing countless events for area causes. The Diablo Valley Women’s League, a nonprofit Julie started to help kids with cancer go to Camp Okizu, has raised more than $1 million. (The league has also thrown amazing parties—like two Doobie Brothers concerts on Blackhawk’s tennis courts.)
“We’re flying back for the league’s Cowboy Up Blackhawk event, which will be in the fall,” says Julie. “We wouldn’t miss it for the world!”
