Snake Charmer

When SURREYYA Hada responds to an E-vite, she usually has to check “plus one.” That’s because she’ll be bringing Murjana, her seven-foot-long boa constrictor. “She’s a really great icebreaker,” says Hada.
Murjana provides a slinky accessory to Hada’s appearances at various Bay Area parties—everything from Yahoo’s annual employee shindig to private affairs in the East Bay. “One of the best parties was at a home in the Lafayette hills,” says Hada, who works for a film soundtrack production house by day. “The owners spared no expense in redecorating the house as a Far Eastern castle. All the guests arrived in costume.”
The dancing duo shares a home in El Cerrito. Murjana, who will grow to be between 10 and 15 feet long, keeps mostly to her terrarium, although Hada frequently lets her out “for a slither.” Hada, who dances (sans snake) at Pride of the Mediterranean in Blackhawk and Bijan in Walnut Creek, charges $250 and up for appearances with Murjana. They’re also available for children’s birthday parties. Ssseriously.
“Of course, for kids’ parties, my costume is not as revealing,” says Hada. “Kids adore Murjana. She’s been around people all her life and is a very gentle, friendly snake.”
Hada and Murjana can be reached through Celebrity Gems, (510) 581-5964, www.celebritygems.com and www.surreyya.com.
