Cheap Eats: Project Pie

Get your pizza fix in Walnut Creek.

Why Come? Impressive thin-crust artisanal pizzas are made on the fly. Project Pie is the new (and improved) version of the popular Pieology chain, and is the team’s first Bay Area store.

What’s the atmosphere like? The space is cavernous yet cute, with a retro-comics wall, pizza-production line, and self-serve soda bar. A bar with “adult milkshakes” is in the works.

What to order? You can ask for a classic or design your dream pie, but the signature pizzas are well worth a spin. (Feel free to tweak.) Look for the ones featuring brussels sprouts, Feta, prosciutto, or caramelized onions. The kale Caesar makes a nice side.

How much?  A good-sized personal pie runs $7–$9.

When is it open?  Lunch and dinner daily.

Where is it? 1590 Botelho Dr., Walnut Creek, (925) 476-5860, projectpie.com.
