Greatest. Father's Day gift. Ever.
Slippers for Dad? Necktie? Oh, brother. How about a 1982 Trans Am prop car from the television series Knight Rider?
The car was recently put up for sale at Dublin’s Kassabian Motors. Livermore resident Tim Russo, who owns the car, is asking $150,000.
On the show, the car could drive at speeds of up to 300 mph and converse with David Hasselhoff’s character via the dashboard computer system. In reality, the car runs but can’t be driven on public roads due to smog and registration issues. The flashing red light on the hood works, as do the computer screens on the dashboard.
One hundred and fifty grand might seem like a lot of dough for a 25-year-old Pontiac, but as soon as the story broke that Kassabian Motors had the Knight Rider car for sale, a worldwide frenzy began.
“The phone has been ringing off the hook. We’ve gotten calls from Australia, Ireland, South Africa, and England,” says Kassabian inventory controller John Verhoek. “We just did an interview with a radio show in Bogotá, Colombia. It’s been crazy around here.”
