Frocks For Jocks

You don’t have to play like a pro to look like one. No, this is not about steroids.

Former 49er Brent Jones, KTVU’s Mark Ibañez, and longtime Danville youth sports coach Jorge Garratt have joined forces to create Total Sports. It’s a 19,000-square-foot sports store in San Ramon that looks a bit like SBC Park stocked with gear for soccer, baseball, football, swimming, and even lacrosse. The store offers digital embroidery and screen pressing of letterman jackets and uniforms as well.

The two local celebrities remember the impact a new uniform can have on a young athlete. "I wanted to wear my first Little League uniform to sleep, but my mom wouldn’t let me," says Jones (above left), a Danville resident who won three Super Bowls with the 49ers. "So I put it at the front of my bed and I slept with it."

"My first Little League uniform had number 14, and that’s been my lucky number ever since," says Ibañez (above right), who has been the sports director/anchor at Channel 2 News since 1979. "I had my wedding ring made with 14 diamonds. It has even been my secret code for my computer log-on."

Um, Mark, you might want to keep that to yourself.
