Spring Fling Web Extra
Ditch the wool and cashmere! It’s time to liven up your wardrobe with the newest trends for Spring 2008.
Here’s what hot:
The key word to remember here is: simple. When you wear bold prints, you’ll want a simple design, and simple accessories—one POP at a time. Let the bold print stands alone. Pick a shoe color from within the print and that color will then pop. Or, wear a neutral shoe—white or maybe a tan patent leather will keep the focus on the bold print.
Add a little whimsy with ruffles! This look is great when paired with pieces that are more tailored—the top shown, for example, would be terrific with a pair of wide-leg white slacks. Or, if the ruffled item was a tiered “peasant-y” skirt, a classic tank would be perfect. Remember, this is a bold ruffle—nothing cutesy or mousy. Go delicate with the jewelry, so that the full impact is in the ruffle.
A little peek-a-boo can be downright sexy, but remember to use discretion. A flesh-toned cami is the answer!
If you want to take a great outfit to the next level—top it off with a hat. A man’s fedora is a fun twist with a more feminine look.
Pump up the volume on color—pink, cobalt blue, violet, yellow and orange—are THE colors of the season. Paired with white, or just on their own, these colors are fabulous in simple designs. Remember to tone down the brights as one matures—or use them more in the accessories, like a great handbag.
Modern florals are strong and graphic. They can be worn by the younger crowd in a bold statement, like a dress. However, a mature gal might try a floral blouse with a trench coat and wide leg slacks for a more sophisticated take on the trend.
White, tan, and khaki are the perfect summer neutrals for a quieter mood. Texture is what makes this outfit yummy.
One of the best aspects of spring fashion is the resurgence of the nautical-inspired look. Red, white, and blue is fresh and crisp, and will always be a spring staple. Try pairing a navy or white stripe top with navy or white slacks—finishing off the look with red ballet flats. The trick is to not look like a flag!
The “it” shoe for spring, wedge heels can be low and comfy or sky-high—and still comfy! The beauty of the wedge is that the platform under the ball of the foot makes the heel not such a killer. Wedges with a cork or rope shoe are definitely more for a casual look, but there are great work-appropriate patent leather/peep-toe wedges that are professional and stylish.
Whether it’s an animal or botanical print, bold tribal graphics, or safari neutrals, the tribal vibe is big this spring. Stay bold with accessories, too. Don’t wimp out on jewelry—it needs to balance your clothing. Stay simple in design, but don’t be afraid to be fierce with wood, metal, and stone. Warning: this trend is NOT for the faint-of-heart!
