Inside the Ballet
Ballet experts and neophytes alike will adore Inside the Dancer's Studio.
You may have peeked into a ballerina’s world in the movie Black Swan. But that’s the Hollywood version. In the real world, go to Inside the Dancer’s Studio, Diablo Ballet’s acclaimed series that removes the curtain between dancers and the audience.
The programs are held at the intimate Shadelands Arts Center Auditorium in Walnut Creek, and allow audience members to sit just feet from the dancers, to witness every taut muscle and graceful grand jeté.
After the performance—most pieces are short, dramatic, and contemporary in style—the dancers return to the stage to answer questions about choreography, training, and interpretation. This month’s show includes a mirror dance, a tango, and a tribute to Miles Davis, with live music conducted by the former music director for the Skywalker Symphony at Lucasfilm.
The first Inside the Dancer’s Studio performances are March 4–5, diabloballet.org.
