Owners Josh Spiegelman and Lynn Gorfinkle opened their first Roam in San Francisco in 2010. Their third location, and first in the East Bay, is in Lafayette’s Fiesta Square.
Where? 23 Lafayette Cir., (925) 385-0798, roamburgers.com.
When? Lunch and dinner (11:30 a.m.–10 p.m.) daily.
Why? Roam delivers your classic burger fix with a clean conscience. Meats are all organic, natural, or grass fed, and beef alternatives abound, including bison, turkey, and elk.
What to Order: Burgers, duh. The beef is 100 percent grass fed, which means nice flavor with less fat. The heritage style (bacon, Fontina, and caramelized onion) adds that fat right back in. Fries are a must, especially the shoestring-style zucchini-onion haystack.
How Much? Most burgers are $8.50, with toppings running between free (mayo, ketchup, BBQ sauce) and $1.50 (bacon, fries, egg). You can add an extra patty for $3.25.
Who Goes? Everybody and their mother.
