Shelby Abeles wants you to lend a helping wrist. The 10-year-old Lafayette resident sells bracelets through her Web site to help victims of the South Asian tsunami disaster.
After she heard about the devastating tsunami in December, Abeles sprang into action, launching Kids Band2Gether (www.kidsbandtogether.org), a nonprofit organization with an ambitious goal to raise $1 million in 2005 for UNICEF, Save The Children tsunami relief, and other kid-related causes.
Abeles is already a fund-raising vet: She ran lemonade stands for 9/11 relief efforts, and she feels compelled to get other kids more involved in humanitarian causes for the future. “Eventually, today’s kids will be taking over the world,” she says.
