FOR NEW PARENTS who videotape your baby’s every move, Frazer Bradshaw can do you one better. The Oakland resident filmed his daughter, Hattie, for Babies—a documentary that observes newborns in Namibia, Mongolia, Japan, and the Bay Area.
Hattie was “cast” in the film when French director Thomas Balmès hired Bradshaw, an acclaimed cinematographer, to film the San Francisco segment of the film. “Thomas asked, ‘Do you know anyone in the area who is expecting a baby in April or May?’ ” Bradshaw recalls. “That’s when [my wife] Susie was due.”
Babies hits theaters May 7, and Frazer, Susie, and Hattie are excited to see the film on a big screen. “It’s coming out just before Hattie’s fourth birthday,” says Bradshaw. “We think her birthday party will be a trip to the movies.”
