Gelateria Naia showcases 12 delicious and locally sourced flavors

Gelateria Naia long ago traded imported Italian products for local ingredients. Now, after testing 27 new flavors, they are rolling out 12 absolute keepers that capitalize on the latest bounty of local culinary genius. From Oakland’s Blue Bottle Coffee comes Bella Donovan and from San Francisco comes Tcho’s chocolatey and Recchiuti Confections’ chocolate and malt.
For gelato with a kick, Naia goes beyond the traditional by hooking up with Alameda’s St. George Spirits to make single malt whiskey and absinthe verte. Founders Chris Tan and Trevor Morris also toured the Numi Tea warehouse in Oakland, inspiring six new tea flavors, including the fragrant aged Earl Grey and golden chai.
The cross-branded creations add to the mainstay varieties drawing their flavor from California-grown fruits, nuts, and dairy, such as pistachios from Fiddyment Farms in Lincoln, yogurt from Pavel’s Yogurt Company in San Leandro, and orange blossom honey from Palomino Farms in Riverbank. Helpful staff are happy for you to sample spoonful after mini spoonful until you find your cone-worthy flavor.Available either at Naia stores or Whole Foods in Walnut Creek, San Ramon, Oakland, and Berkeley.
