Sexy and Snuggly

Berkeley high grads talk Hot Guys and Baby Animals.

Published:

Remember those Reese’s commercials, when an accidental collision of chocolate and peanut butter created an unexpected bond of yum? It’s a similar story with Hot Guys and Baby Animals, a surprisingly successful line of calendars, gift books, and greeting cards.

“It started as an inside joke—that we liked to look at hot guys and baby animals,” says Audrey Khuner, who, along with best friend Carolyn Newman, decided to make a calendar of a beefcake holding a cuddly critter for each month.

The Berkeley High grads sold copies to friends, and donated the proceeds to animal rescue charities. Then, publishers came calling, and the pair is now creating a whole line of Hot Guys and Baby Animals products.

“We have heard one negative comment, that this is reverse sexism and objectification,” says Khuner. “But the most common response is, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’ ”
