Farmers Market Finds

The warm weather is here, yielding a delicious bounty for our East Bay farmers markets. Here’s a look at what’s new from NorCal farmers and food artisans.

Cheese: Weirauch Farm raises East Friesian sheep for its Saint Rose—a sharp, nutty cheese with a semisoft interior. North Berkeley, Thursdays 3–7 p.m., ecologycenter.org.

Microgreens: Lifefood Gardens offers überhealthy microgreens grown with sun-dried sea salt to provide 90 trace minerals. Downtown, Saturdays 10 a.m.–3 p.m., ecologycenter.org.


Hummus: Check out 17 varieties from Hummus Heaven, such as black bean and chipotle, and artichoke. Tuesdays 10 a.m.–2 p.m., pcfma.com.

Sandwich cookies: Natty Cakes sells seasonally rotating flavors of chewy cookies sandwiched with cream filling. Thursdays 4–8 p.m., pcfma.com.


Juice: No Joke Juice takes advantage of the juicing trend, offering raw veggie and fresh fruit juice. Saturdays 9 a.m.–1 p.m., pcfma.com.


Pasta: Il Pastaio sells fresh Italian staples such as pasta and sauces, and ready-to-go items like lasagna, eggplant parmesan, and panna cotta. Thursdays 4–8 p.m., pcfma.com.

Pleasant Hill

Soap: Mt. Diablo Soap Company creates all-natural goat’s milk soap in five scents, such as almond oil and mocha. Saturdays 9 a.m.–1 p.m., pcfma.com.


Eggs: Shelly’s Farm Fresh sells fresh eggs from pasture-raised hens, yielding rich flavor and a deep orange yolk. Saturdays 9 a.m.–1 p.m., pcfma.com.

San Ramon

Granola: Gr8nola sells fresh granola sweetened with coconut sugar or honey. Saturdays 9 a.m.–1 p.m. and Thursdays 10 a.m.–2 p.m., sanramonfarmersmarket.com.

Walnut Creek
