Clif Bar gets in the Wine Game

The husband-and-wife creators of Clif Bars, the popular grab-and-go energy food, hope you’ll spend more time savoring their newest product: fine wine.
On their Clif Bar Family Winery and Farm in the Napa Valley, Gary Erickson and Kit Crawford have been crafting limited-production reds: Climber Red ($15), Syrah ($20), Gary’s Improv ($32), and Kit’s Killer Cab ($35). This fall, they are introducing their Climber White ($12.50), sourced from 80 percent organic fruit grown in Mendocino County.
The eco-friendly philosophy they introduced at their Berkeley-based Clif Bar, Inc., carries over into their farm and winery. “The Clif Bar itself is a brand that people have a connection with,” says Linzi Gay, the winery’s brand manager. “It represents a commitment to the Earth, to sustainability, to organic. And it represents a responsibility to the community, which is really important to the wine industry.”
