Brigitte Nguyen dishes about her new Cooking Channel show.


Why did Brigitte Nguyen ditch her day job as a corporate accountant and blow her savings on culinary school?

Memories. Like the ones she has of growing up in Walnut Creek and hovering around her mother in the kitchen.

“Even though my mom worked full-time, there were never fewer than five dishes on the table for dinner,” recalls Nguyen, the host of the Cooking Channel show From the Kitchens of.... “I think that part of my love for food was just my desire to spend time with her.”

After graduating from culinary school, Nguyen found herself on the national recipe contest circuit. She parlayed a runner-up performance on the Food Network’s Ultimate Recipe Showdown (entering a burger recipe inspired by Vietnamese bánh mì sandwiches) into the gig of hosting the Cooking Channel show.

From the Kitchens of..., which shares tips and recipes from the test kitchens of the country’s largest food manufacturers, will begin airing its second season by the end of year.

Nguyen says she hopes to develop a show that focuses more on people: “I think that a lot of food has a story, and that’s what I love: being able to learn about people through the food they make and the food they enjoy.”
