 If “kitchen fashion” makes you think of Crocs and ill-fitting chefs’ whites, then you haven’t met Vanessa Dang. The chef and owner of Vanessa’s Bistro in Berkeley and Walnut Creek is more likely to fillet a fish while wearing a pair of Louboutins or stir-fry in Diane von Furstenberg. After 25 years in the industry, Dang insists on wearing her more than 40 pairs of shoes and collection of John Hardy and David Yurman jewels. “I love what I do, but I’m here all day,” says Dang. “When else am I going to wear them?” vanessasbistro2.com.
