Cool Candy

Danville Chocolates gives some unique alternatives for Halloween treats.

David Dykzeul

If you’re looking to put a real treat into your Halloween, check out Danville Chocolates. The shop opened last November, just missing Halloween, but owner Terri Vollmer is fully prepared this holiday.

Marshmallow Ghost
($2.50) • Vollmer starts with three marshmallows on a stick, dips them in white chocolate, and adds eyes for each ghost. Or she dips them in milk chocolate and adds whiskers and felt hats for kitty witches.

Cookie-Cutter Chocolate
($6) • Chocolate is poured into cookie cutters molded in such shapes as mummy coffins, then decorated with tinted white chocolate.

Caramel Apple
($5–$7) • It wouldn’t be Halloween without this specialty. Vollmer makes her own caramel from scratch and decorates the apples like pumpkins and witches.
