Dogs and beer are indisputably two of humanity’s favorite things—which is why it’s high time someone came up with an event that combines both. Thankfully, the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) has got us covered with its fourth annual Dogtoberfest at Robert Livermore Park on October 14.
What sparked this brilliant idea? “[LARPD] wanted to let the public know about our dog parks,” says Moe Kline, one of the district’s recreation supervisors. “We have seven dog parks, and we’re going to put two more in. We’re quite proud of that. So, we wanted an event that would showcase that we’re a dog-friendly community.”
This pooch-centric version of the classic German Oktoberfest nods to its origins with a beer garden dispensing suds from local breweries. For attendees who eschew the brew, there’s also wine—Livermore is the East Bay’s wine country, after all—plus plenty of food. The rest of the event is packed with pup-related offerings, covering everything from pet adoptions to canine couture.
Dog-themed demonstrations pop up throughout the day, along with various entertaining competitions. Make sure to dress up your four-legged friend for the pet costume contest!
Dogtoberfest will take place on October 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. To find out more about Dogtoberfest and the day’s schedule, visit larpd.org.
