Bar César is like a trip to Latin America—and the food is just as good at this stylish tapas bar. This sibling of Spanish tapas fave César España in Berkeley uses fresh, wholesome, top-quality ingredients to make an art form of pupusas (stuffed corn tortillas), oozing with Jack cheese. The same goes for duck tacos on rustic tortillas, as good as any we’ve had in Mexico. Even black beans offer an awesome mix of satisfying flavors—and well-calibrated heat. Our oysters were delicately barbecued to maximum succulence, without losing delicious brininess. The crisp, sugar-dusted house-made churros dipped in Mexican chocolate were a dream, but a dense chocolate cake layered with flan was rubbery. Don’t skip the long fun list of cocktails, wines, and beer. Lunch and dinner daily.
