At Forbes Mill, the lounge and bar take up nearly as much space as the dining room. The restaurant feels like a Las Vegas–style steak house, but you’ll know you’ve hit the jackpot when you
taste the food. The kitchen’s skill is unmistakable in the white anchovy dressed Caesar salad, the panko-crusted crab cakes, and top-shelf American Kobe steaks, which are so rich and tender they taste like butter. The wine list boasts powerful reds that can stand up to the meat, many from Napa Valley and the Santa Cruz area. On our visit, the only letdown was dessert: a sampler platter consisting of miniature versions of each dessert on the menu missed the mark in flavor and texture. Lunch Mon.–Fri., dinner daily.
