Forge’s thin-crust Neapolitan-style pizzas, combining top-notch ingredients with a delectable sourdough crust, would be enough to warrant a visit. But this casual, industrial-chic hot spot in Jack London Square has even more to offer. The rest of the menu, decidedly American to the pizza’s Italian, is a wealth of comfort food done Bay Area–style. Crispy cheese curds gave us a childlike mozzarella stick glee, although they had a lighter, delicate herbed breading. The huge smoked chicken wings exhibited an intense smokiness that played nicely with the tender savory chicken and silky buttermilk blue cheese sauce. A spring panzanella salad couldn’t have had fresher, more seasonal ingredients, including tender blanched asparagus and gorgeous spring onion. While our three-cheese pizza could have used more punch, the fiery pepperoni, spiced up with Calabrian chiles, had no such problem. Wash it down with a craft beer on the waterfront patio—great on a warm day. Lunch and dinner daily.
