This ultracasual Sri Lankan restaurant is a gem, if you know what to order. Lamprais, a spicy concoction (you can choose your own heat level) of yellow rice, curry, plantain, fried onions, and rich eggplant baked in a banana leaf, is an exotic, satisfying, and rewarding dish. In fact, all the rice dishes (the biryani and pineapple fried rice in particular) make for wonderful comfort food. Skip the fish and pork dishes, and when there’s a choice of meats, opt for lamb or “mutton”—which means goat at Kadupul. Nectars, smoothies, ginger beer, and a soothing Ayurvedic ginger tea more than make up for the lack of a liquor license (bring your own bottle if you like). Lunch and dinner
