Those familiar with the two Khana Peena Indian restaurants in Berkeley will be happy to see that the restaurant has found a third home in Oakland’s Rockridge district. The latest location features a sleek, modern interior and an exotic outdoor dining area, complete with embroidered pillows and heat lamps. Khana Peena has everything that locals want: a full bar, longer-than-average operating hours, and tasty food. Vegetarian samosas are fragrantly spiced and cleanly fried; naan is fresh and hot; and both tandoori and curried meats arrive tender and deliciously seasoned. Still, we could quibble with some of the prices: $9.95 for a small plate of dal, or stewed lentils, seemed inflated. Lunch and dinner daily. Also in Berkeley.
