An era ended when Double Rainbow Ice Cream closed its
doors at the corner of Claremont and College avenues in Rockridge. Noodle Theory, its replacement, is positively monastic by comparison, but we’ve come to appreciate its healthy aesthetic. Chef-owner Louis Kao turns out well-crafted steamed shrimp and Chinese chive dumplings, and we devoured an order of deep, dark green Chinese broccoli, accompanied by oyster sauce and pungent slivers of toasted garlic. And the noodles? They’re totally fresh and well seasoned, whether served in soups or stir-fries. We loved the chewy texture of the ginger noodles served with grilled Fulton Valley chicken breast. With no dessert menu at Noodle Theory, you’ll still have to go out for ice cream. Luckily, Ici (the gourmet Elmwood creamery) is nearby. Lunch and dinner daily.
