Oak Park shopping center’s low-key Savanh, which used to be Bangkok, has a new Thai specialty: tender barbecued chicken, pork, beef, and shrimp glazed with a garlic and lemongrass marinade and served over steamed vegetables, with a sweet-tart dipping sauce. If that’s not enough to make you give up carbs, try the plump grilled chicken satay skewers with their ultrarich peanut sauce or the soft cubes of tofu fried to a crisp. The cucumber salad provides a cool, fresh counterpoint. Velvety Panang curry throws off a delicious sweet spiciness, and Savanh’s vibrant noodle dishes rock. A large Singha makes a great beer for two. A somewhat thick fried banana as well as coconut pineapple ice cream provide an exotic ending to a flavor-filled meal. Lunch and dinner Mon.–Sat.
