Serving a booming population at the crossroads of Interstates 580 and 680, The Banana Garden is just one of the area’s amazing Asian restaurants. This is a roomy and stylish space where Malaysian cuisine pulls from the food cultures of China, Thailand, and India. Start with roti pratha, a crisp bread designed for dipping in a rich toasted-curry sauce. The charred chicken satay is uncommonly plump and moist. Clusters of slick noodles, chewy squid, and fresh bean sprouts in the fragrant char koay kak create a textural masterpiece. Belachan string beans showcase the menu’s penchant for assertive spice. The dwarf banana trees by the front door, slips of banana leaves on the plates, and likely the best fried bananas you’ll find in the States assert the restaurant’s authenticity. Lunch and dinner Tues.–Sun.
