Rodney Worth’s new boisterous family-style Mexican eatery is definitely “worth” the trip to Blackhawk Plaza. The Prickly Pear Cantina is the latest in the chef-owner’s growing string of East Bay eateries, including Danville’s popular Peasant and the Pear. The Prickly Pear combines fantastic food with reasonable prices: Nothing on the menu costs more than $18, except the margaritas (Millionaire Margarita, $22; Billionaire Margarita, $80, with 25- and 50-year-old Anniversary Grand Marnier, respectively). After appetizers (muy ricos) of carnitas bean dip and jalapeño chimichangas, dig into the tender steak fajitas rancheros that sizzle on a bed of Mexican rice. If you like it hot, the spicy prawns al diablo is a must. The dish features giant tender shrimp you can feel good about eating, as Worth follows the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program. Olé! Lunch and dinner daily.
