Opening a bar-focused restaurant (as opposed to a restaurant with a bar) is the modern Zeitgeist, and Townie honors the form. The dining area is expansive and essentially an extension of the brick-backed and zinc-topped bar with its 16 taps, international wine list, and signature cocktails. Intriguing small plates include brussels sprouts frizzled in lots of brown butter, cauliflower charred with plump raisins and toasted almonds, and tasty Serrano ham croquettes. On our visit, the full menu was still in the works, but we were plenty satisfied with a first-rate burger and cracker-crisp flatbread spread with smoky eggplant. Check Townie’s Facebook page for upcoming bands and the restaurant’s cool brunch menu, and be sure to stop by the game room, which includes a foosball table. Dinner Tues.–Sun., brunch Sat.–Sun.
