After closing its Lafayette location, local favorite Yan’s has opened a bright, spacious restaurant in Orinda. Just like the popular Alamo and Walnut Creek locations, Yan’s is a bit short on decor but makes up for it with fresh, well-prepared dishes that could best be called Chinese comfort food. Serving up a seemingly limitless menu, Yan’s Mandarin, Szechuan, and Cantonese-style dishes are as diverse as sweet mu shu wraps and salty Mongolian beef. Care for a rice clay pot? A noodle soup? A sizzling platter? Yan’s has it. Favorites include salt- and-pepper calamari, kung pao (in any form), and curry chicken. The crispy Hong Kong noodles are also a crowd pleaser, as is the chow fun, available with pork, chicken, beef, prawns, or veggies. Lunch and dinner Wed.–Mon.
