Since Zachary’s opened its doors in San Ramon in May 2006 (after two decades in the 510), the teeming crowds have barely abated. The wait for a table on weekends can be up to a half hour, but you can order your pizza the moment you walk in the door. That way, when you do sit down you can dig right into the tangy, tomato-topped deep-dish pizza. The buttery crust and generous fillings of tasty ingredients such as spinach and mushrooms are worth the wait every time. The thin crust pizza with its crispy, cornmeal-lined base is also delicious. The Zachary’s team has captured pizza perfection—as well as the neighborhood feeling of the other two locations. For take out, call in advance and order a half-baked deep-dish or ready-to-go pie. Lunch and dinner daily. Also in Berkeley and Oakland.
