The vacant lot at the corner of Lafayette’s Dewing Avenue and Mt.
Diablo Boulevard is getting a major makeover, and bringing another
high-end shopping, dining, and office center to the East Bay. Ground
broke in July on the Lafayette Mercantile, which will comprise 22,000
square feet of retail space and 32,000 square feet of office space.
Developer Steve Cortese and Main Street Property Services, which manages Cortese’s La Fiesta Square, hope to attract clothing boutiques, a bookstore, and home furnishing and gardening shops, as well as several upscale cafés and restaurants. The Mercantile will feature a large underground parking garage, and Mt. Diablo Boulevard will be reconfigured to offer Lafayette’s first diagonal parking spaces.
