Teen Style: School Cool
Montana Dewberry, 13, of Walnut Creek shows Diablo some first-day-of-school style
Meet Montana Dewberry, a Walnut Creek student who won the Who Wants to Be a Teen Stylist contest in Diablo’s weekly e-newsletter, The A-list. We gave Montana a $100 gift card from our friends at Stoneridge Shopping Center and sent her out to find some sweet threads for the first day of eighth grade.
Top: In Nordstrom’s BP department, Montana found a promising coral blouse, but it didn’t work out in the dressing room. “I loved it on the hanger but not on me,” she said. But she was delighted when she tried on this Soprano tank with a beaded neckline. The brightly colored top’s straps are just wide enough to satisfy her school’s dress code.
Jeans: Montana hit the jeans jackpot at American Eagle Outfitters, finding two pairs on sale ($14 each). By doubling down on denim, she received an extra 20 percent off her purchase, so she added a pair of earrings to highlight the gold accents in her blouse.
Shoes: Sandals were a challenge. Macy’s had a strappy pair by Steve Madden that looked the part but weren’t comfy enough for a full school day. Fortunately, H&M had a pair that matched the outfit and fit nicely—and left Montana with enough on her card to buy a set of rings. “Fun rings are my favorite accessory,” Montana says. “You can mix and match them without spending a lot of money.”
Clockwise: Earrings, $12.50, Jeans, $28, Rings, $6, Sandals, $6
